"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "Plans to Prosper you and not to harm you , plans to give you a Hope and a Future." Jeremiah 29:11
It is human nature to want to know the future. Humanity has looked to seers, fortune tellers, psychics, prophets...and now, the groundhog. Supposedly, if this little critter sees his shadow, we will have six more weeks of winter!
When are we most desperate to know what lies ahead? For most of us, it is when our circumstances are difficult and we are wanting to know if things will get better. For example, here in Wisconsin, people hold out hope that spring is coming after a long, dark, cold winter.
When we are experiencing dark times. we look for a sign of hope. We want to know how much longer we will have to endure the hardships. God promises that He has a plan. He wants us to prosper and to be safe. He does not tell us how. He does not tell us when. He does not tell us exactly what to look for. He tells us to trust Him, and to believe that He knows what's best.
Father God, I grow weary in my struggles. Just like the long period of cold and darkness of winter, when I am in a difficult place I want to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I want to know that my pain, sadness, fear, or grief won't last forever. I thank you that you hear the cry of my heart. You have a plan for my life, and it is Good. I don't need to know how, or when. I just need to know that You are faithful, and a God who keeps His promises. Thy will be done.
